FUNCTION:  Deerfield Park signThe following is a list of the recreational activities the Recreation Manager oversees, directs, maintains and coordinates.  In doing so the recreation department provides a wide variety of activities for all its citizens.  The recreation department uses school facilities as well as town recreational facilities in the coordination of many of these programs. 

The Recreation Manager works with each of the organizations listed below, be it adult groups, youth organizations or non traditional activities that make up the program of recreational activities for the Town of Smithfield.

Notice - Smithfield Fireworks Rescheduled

The Fireworks & Independence Day Celebration originally scheduled for July 2nd has been rescheduled to the rain date of Monday, July 6th.  Same schedule as before: Paul Borrelli Band at 7:00 pm, Fireworks at 9pm.  More>>  

 

PUBLIC SKATING SESSIONS:  Adult Public Skating for skaters ages 18 & Over - Every Tuesday & Friday from11am to 1pm.  General Public Skating for skaters of all ages - every Sunday from 12pm to 2pm.

Town Summer Programs

1. Recreation Playground Program – Ages 6 to 12

  • The summer youth activity programs for children ages 6 to 12 the program is held Monday thru Friday starting at the end of June for 7 weeks.  The programs are held at Gallagher Middle School starting each day from 8am to 3:00pm.  Programming includes the following: field trips, games, arts & crafts and various athletic activities.  A registration fee is charged for this program.  More>>

2. Tennis Lessons – All Ages

  • Tennis lessons are taught for boys, girls and adults and all sessions are held Monday thru Friday starting at the end of June for 7 weeks.  All ages and levels of ability are welcome to participate.  A registration fee is charged for this program. 

 3. Adult Men’s and Women’s Tennis League – Ages 18 and Older

  • For Men and Women who are residents of the Town of Smithfield. Players are grouped according to ability.  League play will begin the first week of June and will end with a tournament on the last weekend of July.  A registration fee is charged for this program. 

4. Men’s Recreational Softball League – Ages 35 and Older

  • Adult men’s softball is open to individuals from age 35 and up.  League play is Sunday mornings from end of May to early Sept.  Six teams of 18 individuals play two games each Sunday. Individuals are at own risk for injury.                 

Town Winter Programs:

1. Adult Men’s Sunday Morning Basketball – Ages 35 and Older

  • Full court pick-up basketball for adult men of all ages held at Old County Road School Gymnasium every Sunday morning from 9am – 11:30am starting the last Sunday in October to the last Sunday in March.

2. Adult Women’s Sunday Morning Basketball – Ages 18 and Older

  • Full court pick-up basketball for adult women of all ages held at Gallagher Middle School Gymnasium every Sunday morning from 9am – 11:30am starting the last Sunday in October to the last Sunday in March.

Town Beaches: 

There are two beach facilities located in the Town of Smithfield and they are:

  1. Greenlake Beach
  • Greenlake Beach:  Located on Slacks Pond Reservior, this is a private beach and is for use by Smithfield Residents only.  A beach patron needs to show proof of residency to use Greenlake Beach.  No boat launching is allowed in this area.  Fishing from shore is allowed.
  1. Georgiaville Pond Beach
  • Georgiaville Beach: Located on Georgiaville Pond, this facility is open to the general public.   The Smithfield Recreation Department requires all beach patrons to purchase either a daily beach pass or a seasonal beach pass to use the facility, the fee structure is stated below, day passes are valid for one day and seasonal passes are valid for one beach season.  The Smithfield Recreation Department also requires all beach patrons and boaters to purchase a sticker for their vehicle, boat, and trailer, for any of these items to be used at Georgiaville Pond, the fee structure is stated below, day passes are valid for two years.  Fees apply to all ages and there is no-charge for Senior Citizens and Honorable Discharged Veterans.

Both beaches provide bathrooms with handicap accessibility.

All Senior Citizens age 62 or older, people with physical disabilities, and/or honorably discharged veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces are eligible to receive a free parking sticker, trailer sticker, motor boat sticker, and beach pass. 

All stickers are available for purchase at the Smithfield Municipal Ice Rink Monday thru Friday 9am to 5pm (starting May 1st, 2009)!  Proof of residency is required for all resident sticker purchases.  Georgiaville Pond Beach Seasonal Passes will be available for sale on June 1, 2009.
