ASSISTANT TOWN ENGINEER: Full time, non-union, salaried position. Responsible to assist in the design review of public and private construction projects, land developments, as well as the performance of a variety of duties, which will be assigned by the Town Engineer or the Town Manager. Work requires a thorough technical knowledge of civil engineering, computers, drainage, sewer, specifications, and inspection, drafting and estimating. This person also provides support in regards to any Sewer or Waste Water Treatment projects. This position works with several town ordinances; including, but not limited to the sewer, soil erosion, zoning and landscaping ordinances. Duties include plan review, approval and enforcement under the direction of the Town Engineer. Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering plus a minimum of one year of hands-on experience; Registered as an Engineer-in-Training / F.E. or ability to obtain within six months of hire; GIS knowledge; strong computer skills; and strong AutoCAD skills. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Salary range is $55,000 – $69,000 depending on qualifications. Excellent benefits. ADMINISTRATIVE CLERK I: Town Clerk’s Office: Temporary, full-time, hourly, non-union, position. Responsibilities include: answering phones, greeting and assisting the public, recording land evidence, researching vital statistic records, processing and issuing birth, death and marriage licenses, indexing and preparing reports to state agencies, assisting with the upcoming election process and other duties as assigned. Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. (Associate Degree preferred); minimum of three years of office experience preferably in a municipal setting; proficient in Microsoft office; ability to research, interpret and apply regulations of laws. Requires two years of professional experience in an administrative, secretarial or clerical capacity; and Microsoft Office proficiency. Ability to work in a busy office environment and possess excellent verbal & written skills. Rate is $18.00 per hour. No benefits. LIFEGUARDS – $18 / hour. Must be non- surf certified and have valid CPR & first aid cards at time of appointment. Beach hours are 10 am – 6 pm, seven days a week from mid-June to Labor Day. A rotating schedule is used. E.E.O.

Criminalist: Smithfield Police Department: Part–time, hourly position, weekdays. Approximately 19 hours per week. This position applies scientific principles to analysis, identification, and classification of mechanical devices, chemical and physical substances, materials, liquids or other physical evidence related to criminology, law enforcement, or investigative work in order to assist department personnel in solving crimes and attaining successful prosecutions. Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D.; Must have successful completion of the RI State Crime Laboratory BCI School or equivalent program; Must possess at least three years of experience in criminal investigation techniques; Must possess a working competency with Microsoft Windows and IMC Software; Must possess a valid driver’s license; Must be a U.S. citizen. ZAMBONI OPERATOR: SMITHFIELD ICE RINK: Part time, hourly. Responsibilities include assisting the Manager with operations and supervision of the rink; operating the Zamboni; providing minor repairs & maintenance. Require a high school diploma or GED. One year of supervisory experience. Ability to act independently and exercise discretion and good judgement. Knowledge of maintenance & minor repairs. Rate is $15.00 per hour. Must be able to work approximately 15 – 20 hours per week (including nights and weekends.) No benefits. Must be able to communicate with the public, work with minimal supervision, and possess general knowledge of cleaning & maintenance. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with skate rentals. High public interaction. Must be able to work 15 – 20 hours per week (including nights and weekends.) Rate $13.50 per hour.
