Police Officer: The Smithfield Police Department is seeking qualified candidates to establish a one year eligibility list for police officers. Applicants must be 18 or older; a U.S. Citizen; possess valid operator’s license; possess Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement, by June 30, 2018. Applications are available at Smithfield Police Department, 215 Pleasant View Avenue, Smithfield, Rhode Island or on the Department website www.smithfieldpd.com/recruitment/ Completed applications must be returned to the police department by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 (deadline extended). Previous candidates must reapply. Recruitment and selection process takes approximately three months. Salary is $991.56 per week. E.O.E.

Maintenance / Handyman: Part–time, hourly position, weekdays, approximately 25 hours per week. Under general supervision of the Building Official, the Maintenance / Handyman position performs a variety of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings at various sites including carpentry, minor electrical, plumbing repairs, painting and assist with special projects as directed; maintain clean, safe and orderly work sites. Graduate from High School or G.E.D. with three (3) to five (5) years of experience with plumbing, electrical and carpentry repair. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Good written and oral communication skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Knowledge of standard practices and tools used in the maintenance and repair of building facilities; safety practices and procedures related to electrical, carpentry, plumbing; proper lifting techniques; reading blueprints; basic math skills. Criminalist – Smithfield Police Department: Part–time, hourly position, weekdays. Approximately 20 hours per week. This position applies scientific principles to analysis, identification, and classification of mechanical devices, chemical and physical substances, materials, liquids or other physical evidence related to criminology, law enforcement, or investigative work in order to assist department personnel in solving crimes and attaining successful prosecutions. Maintenance Worker – Smithfield Ice Rink: Part-time, hourly. Responsibilities include general maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep of the rink. Must be able to communicate with the public, work with minimal supervision, and possess general knowledge of cleaning & maintenance. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with skate rentals and concession stand operations. High public interaction. Must be able to work 15 – 20 hours per week including nights and weekends. Rate $10.35 per hour. No benefits.
