Civilian Secretary – Smithfield Fire Department: Full-time, union position. Responsibilities include: answering phones, maintaining confidential records, processing payroll and billing, typing letters, ordering supplies, post and update website, etc. Requires five years of office experience; excellent public relations experience; strong organization, problem solving, and researching skills; Microsoft Office proficiency; database experience; error free typing skills; ability to take dictation. Bachelor’s degree is highly desired. High school diploma or G.E.D. is required. Annual salary is $50,622. Excellent benefits. Snow Plow Driver – Smithfield Department of Public Works: Temporary, seasonal position available. This is an on-call position for plowing events on an as-needed basis. Responsibilities include the operation of town-owned plow trucks with manual transmissions. Requires valid RI Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with air brake endorsement; at least three (3) years’ experience plowing snow and snow removal operations; ability to plow and operate a sander for a lengthy duration.   • LIFEGUARDS – Must be non- surf certified and have valid CPR & first aid cards at time of appointment. Beach hours are 10 am – 6 pm, seven days a week from mid June to Labor Day. A rotating schedule is used. Must possess a valid driver’s license.  Job Description (.pdf)

    If you need lifeguard training – the Smithfield YMCA conducts training. Students completing the lifeguard training program are eligible to apply to the Town of Smithfield beaches and /or YMCA for spring & summer employment.
