New Tax Assessment Values Now Available

Dear Smithfield Property Owners,

Notices giving the new assessment of your property were mailed out the week of February 21, 2022.  Please do not multiply your new assessment by the current tax rate, as this will result in an inaccurate tax amount.  While we are currently working on finalizing rate calculations, be assured the residential tax rate will be less than $14 per thousand from the current level of $17.13 which is a drastic reduction.

You can review the property data used to develop the assessed values at our online database by visiting  If you have any questions or concerns regarding the new assessment, please follow the instructions in the letter or use the contact information provided below.  You may schedule an appointment simply to ask questions about how these values are determined or you may also dispute this assessment through providing evidence supporting your estimate of the fair market value of your property, such as comparable properties in your area or a recent appraisal.

Please note that the informal hearing process is the best time to discuss the assessment.  Once the bills are issued, changes can only be made through the formal appeal process and discussions can only occur through a hearing by the Board of Assessment Review.
