      GREETING:

You are hereby required to post this written Town of Smithfield notification in one or more public places in each voting district at least seven days before the DEMOCRAT AND REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY ELECTION scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

This Greeting serves to notify and warn the Electors and Qualified Voters of the Town of Smithfield to meet in ELECTIVE MEETINGS at their respective voting places, to wit, for the following purpose:                                

DEMOCRAT AND REPUBLICAN PRIMARY ELECTION

TUESDAY, JUNE 2, 2020

7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

WHERE THE POLLS WILL OPEN AT 7:00 A.M. AND CLOSE AT 8:00 P.M. ON       TUESDAY, JUNE 2, 2020.

            NOW THEREFORE, in accordance with law, the electors qualified to vote in said General Election in the Town of Smithfield, are hereby warned and notified to assemble on said date and record their vote for the Presidential Candidate (President of the United States) of choice or uncommitted (choice of one person), and to vote for not more than eleven (11) Delegates (to National Convention) under the Presidential Candidate or Uncommitted, and for the transaction of such other business which may legally come before said meeting.

On the Presidential Preference Primary Election Ballot:

Vote a preference for a choice of one (1) person to be the candidate of a party for President of the United States;

Vote for Delegates to the National Convention for each political party. 

And for the transaction of such business as may legally come before such meetings.

The Board of Canvassers of the Town of Smithfield will use the following one (1) combined Polling Locations for Town Districts 1-6 for the Primary Election to be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020:           

VOTING DISTRICTS 1 THROUGH 6: 

Smithfield Senior High School

90 Pleasant View Avenue 

Registered Democrats, Republicans, Independents/Unaffiliated may vote in this Presidential Preference Primary Election

The polls will open at 7:00 a.m. and close at *8:00 p.m.  

*Please notice that by State Law the polling location closes at 8:00 p.m.

Final day for unregistered voters to register to vote is Sunday May 3, 2020 and the deadline for voters to disaffiliate from party for the Tuesday, June 2, 2020 Presidential Preference Primary Election is Monday, May 4, 2020.  Voter registration forms are available at the Smithfield Board of Canvassers, 64 Farnum Pike and the Smithfield Police Department, 215 Pleasant View Avenue, Smithfield, R.I. 02917. 

Mail ballots are also available through our website at www.smithfieldri.com.

Final day to apply for a Braille or Tactile Mail Ballot is Monday, April 20, 2020.

Prior to Sunday, May 3, 2020, registrations are received daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through the drop-box to the right of the front door of the Smithfield Town Hall for processing.  Also, you can download a voter registration form by visiting www.sec.state.ri.us/elections to fill in, mail in or drop off. 

Mailing address is:  Smithfield Board of Canvassers, care of the Smithfield Town Clerk’s Office, 64 Farnum Pike, RI  02917.  You may access additional information such as your precinct designation and voter history through the Secretary of State’s website.  Online voter registration is also available at https://vote.sos.ri.gov/.

As an existing registered Smithfield voter, who has had a recent change of address or a recent name change, you may wish to update your voter registration form.

Due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) in RI the Board of Elections is encouraging voters throughout the State of Rhode Island to vote by mail-in ballot.

Please complete the mail ballot application on our website and return to the Town Clerk’s Office by April 7, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.

On April 8, 2020 begins the emergency ballot process which will allow you to vote in person at the Smithfield Town Clerk’s Office from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Presidential Preference Primary will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2020

If you are unable to visit the Polls that day between the hour of 7:00 a.m. and 8p.m.

Feel free to apply for an absentee ballot for the Democrat Primary and Republican Primary.

The deadline date to return the application to the Smithfield Town Clerk’s Office with your original signature is by April 7, 2020 at 4:00 p.m.
